Students are asked to use their imagination and creativity to identify NASA Spinoff technology in their everyday world. Items such as memory foam, invisible braces, firefighting equipment, artificial limbs, scratch-resistant lenses, aircraft anti-icing systems, shoe insoles, water filters/purification, cochlear implants, satellite television, and long-distance telecommunications were first developed for a NASA mission and then, re-worked to make everyday life easier.
Once you start discovering Spinoffs, you will be surprised to find how much of the NASA Labs are in our everyday lives.
To display their research and ideas, depending on the mission chosen, students will use a combination of text, images and videos, to create a collage or multimedia poster using Adobe Spark. Students have the opportunity to share their ideas with NASA.

Research - Design - Innovate
Students in grades 3-12 will expand their understanding of NASA Spinoff technology by developing their own Spinoff ideas.
Model - Simulate - Commercialize
Students will test their skills by changing an everyday object into something that will make the world a better place. Finalists will take their spinoff one step further creating models and visual representations of their Spinoff ideas within a 3D, multi-user virtual world environment, working with college mentors and subject matter experts.
Did you know... A software developed to help NASA engineers perform structural analysis in the 1960s called NASTRAN has been used to help design everything from airplanes and cars to Disney’s Space Mountain roller coaster.
